Summary: Good product - read instructions carefully
Comment: I found the Anemia Meter easy to use, however, I would STRONGLY urge users to read the entire instruction sheet at least once or twice before use. The only thing I did not like about the meter is that it can only be used one time. I would recommend this product to anyone who can carefully follow instructions. (I did not find the instructions to be complicated, but they must be followed exactly.) The kit came with everything needed, including the lancet, an alcohol wipe and even a band-aid.

Summary: Not easy, but surprisingly accurate
Comment: Bought one for an older family member who recently had been diagnosed with anemia in order to track her progress. The instructions are well done, but the device itself requires a not insubstantial amount of blood (4 or more drops) to operate. It may not be appropriate for someone who is less than 90 lbs or elderly. But we were eventually able to get enough blood to proceed.

At first, we had difficulty reading the result because the window of hemoglobin values reported by the device only covered "anemic" and low normal ranges. By carefully inspecting the device, we could see that she seemed to have a 14+ value, which we couldn't believe. A follow on appointment at the doctor found her hemoglobin to be almost exactly that found by the Biosafe device.

I would recommend this item for those who aren't squeamish about giving blood and who are concerned they may have anemia. Absent some indication of anemia or if you have difficulty giving the required amount of blood, it is a bit too cumbersome to use to really be worthwhile.

Summary: Worked for Me
Comment: I found this test easy to use, but was glad they offered two lancets my first time using it, since I needed a second try to get efficient blood for the test.

I must say, the first time the test result was puzzling so I called the 800 number to ask about it and the company sent me another test, free of charge. This second test was accurate (concurred with a doctor's test), showing I indeed was anemic. I was able to share this with my doctor and received help.

With the cost of office visits, lab tests, and gas prices, this is an affordable way I can keep better tabs on my iron deficiency problem. It's also been nice being able to do it in the privacy of my own home and obtaining results right away!

Summary: It's for Hemoglobin only
Comment: I found the test to be very easy to use and had no problem with the lancet. Users might want to be aware that this test only checks hemoglobin levels to determine anemia. It does not test for ferritin or folate deficiencies. Deficiencies in ferritin and/or folate can cause health problems and need proper diagnosis and treatment.
